Qatar Riders Ready for Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Challenge

Qatar’s equestrian community is preparing to compete at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, which will be hosted by the Japanese city of Aichi-Nagoya from September 19 to October 4, with a strong contingent of Qatari riders set to compete in three disciplines: show jumping, dressage and eventing. The team is aiming to deliver strong performances and achieve results that reflect the position Qatari equestrian sport has reached at both the continental and international levels.
Qatar will field a 12-rider equestrian delegation across the three teams, following an intensive period of preparation that included training camps throughout the summer. The camps focused on raising the riders’ technical and physical readiness, as well as helping them adapt to the nature of the competitions and the demands of the upcoming Asian Games.

The show jumping team will be represented by Sheikh Ali bin Khalid Al Thani, Sheikh Fahad bin Jassim Al Thani, Falih Suwaid Al Ajmi and Bassem Mohammed, while Jassim Jeham Al Kuwari and Saud Ahmed Al Buainain will represent Qatar in dressage.
The eventing team comprises Mohammed Jabr Al Nuaimi, Abdulaziz Ahmed Al Muhannadi, Mohammed Salem Al Marri and Mohammed Nasser Al Qadi. The riders will face a series of competitions combining dressage, cross-country and show jumping, requiring comprehensive preparation and a high level of concentration throughout the competition days.
The Qatari equestrian delegation’s administrative team, which will oversee the three national teams and follow up on all aspects of their participation, includes Abdullah Al Mesmer, show jumping team manager; Hassan Al Nasr, dressage team manager; and Saad Al Kuwari, eventing team manager.
The administrative staff is working in coordination with the riders and coaching teams to provide the national teams with the best possible conditions throughout the Games, while overseeing the organisational, technical and logistical aspects of the participation to help the riders maintain full focus on their competitions.

The equestrian competitions will begin on September 21 with the team and individual dressage competitions in eventing, followed the next day by the cross-country competition. The eventing programme will conclude on September 23 with the team and individual show jumping competitions.
The dressage competitions will enter their decisive stage on September 25 with the team final and individual qualification, followed by the individual competitions on September 26 and 27. Qatari fans will then turn their attention to show jumping, with the team competition beginning on October 1, followed by the individual competitions on October 3 and 4, making equestrian sport one of the disciplines to conclude its participation in the Asian Games.
Qatar’s participation in the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games comes after a lengthy preparation period during which the riders sought to make the most of their summer training camps and arrive at the championships in the best possible condition, amid expected competition featuring some of the continent’s leading riders.
Through participation in the three disciplines, Qatari equestrian sport is looking to mount a strong challenge at both team and individual level and achieve results that reflect the development the sport has witnessed in Qatar in recent years. This comes particularly in light of the international experience possessed by several of the participating riders and their ability to compete at major championships, alongside the administrative and technical support accompanying the national teams throughout their participation.

Qatar’s sizeable equestrian contingent reflects the level of attention the sport receives, with the country boasting a strong base of experienced riders with international competition experience, in addition to the early preparations for the event through training camps held throughout the summer.
As the competition draws closer, Qatari equestrian sport is looking to turn this preparation into positive results and leave a new mark at one of the biggest sporting events on the Asian continent, further strengthening Qatar’s presence among the leading nations competing in equestrian disciplines.
For his part, Badr Al Darwish, President of the Qatar Equestrian and Modern Pentathlon Federation, stressed the importance of Qatar’s participation in the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, noting that the federation had been keen to provide the participating riders with the best possible preparation conditions to ensure a performance befitting the standing of Qatari equestrian sport.

“We are pleased to have reached this stage of preparations for our participation in the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, and we have confidence in the abilities of our riders and the experience and capabilities they possess, which qualify them to deliver strong performances at this major continental event,” Al Darwish said.
He added: “The riders of the three national teams underwent a comprehensive preparation programme throughout the summer, through training camps focused on raising their technical and physical readiness. In coordination with the technical and administrative teams, we were keen to provide the riders with everything they need to prepare in the best possible way for the competitions.”
The President of the Qatar Equestrian and Modern Pentathlon Federation explained that participation in show jumping, dressage and eventing reflects the breadth of Qatar’s equestrian base and the development of its riders’ levels.

“We have a distinguished group of participating riders, and we look forward to seeing them translate the lengthy preparation period into strong performances and positive results. At the same time, we recognise that competition at the Asian Games will be intense, with some of the continent’s best riders taking part,” he said.
He continued: “We wish all of Qatar’s riders the best of luck at these Games and hope they will succeed in representing their country in the best possible way and raising Qatar’s flag high at this major sporting event.”
