Enactment Delivers Dramatic Debut Victory for Wathnan Racing at Newmarket
Mdmar – Newmarket – United Kingdom
Wathnan Racing celebrated an impressive victory at Newmarket on Wednesday as promising two-year-old colt Enactment made a winning racecourse debut, producing a powerful late surge to capture the CopyBet For Champions League Profit Boosts Novice Stakes.
Trained by Ralph Beckett and ridden by James Doyle, the American-bred colt secured the seven-furlong Class 3 contest by a head, defeating Godolphin’s strongly fancied Altius, trained by Charlie Appleby and partnered by William Buick.
The victory came on soft ground in a five-runner field, with Enactment demonstrating determination, stamina and an impressive finishing effort despite his lack of previous racecourse experience.
A Thrilling Finish at Newmarket
Altius established an early lead and dictated the pace, while Enactment settled comfortably in third position during the opening stages.

James Doyle began asking his mount to improve approaching the final three furlongs, gradually bringing the Wathnan Racing representative into contention.
As the runners entered the closing stages, Altius appeared to have established a decisive advantage, moving approximately two lengths clear with just over a furlong remaining.

However, Enactment responded strongly to Doyle’s urgings, displaying an impressive change of pace and rapidly reducing the deficit.
Inside the final 110 yards, Enactment challenged the leader before getting his head in front close to the winning post.
The colt completed the seven-furlong contest in 1 minute 27.12 seconds, defeating Altius by a head, with Brave Country finishing third, a further seven and a half lengths behind.
Impressive Pedigree and Encouraging Prospects
Bred in the United States by Rock Ridge Thoroughbreds LLC, Enactment is a son of the American Triple Crown winner Justify out of Lemon Belle, a daughter of Lemon Drop Kid.

His pedigree, combined with the determination displayed in his first race, provides encouraging signs for his future development.
The performance was particularly noteworthy given that Enactment was making his debut against more experienced opposition, including the odds-on favourite Altius.
Enactment earned £6,184.80 in first-place prize money.

Although it remains too early to determine his ultimate level, the victory suggests that the Ralph Beckett-trained youngster could develop into an interesting prospect for Wathnan Racing as he gains further racing experience.

The success also highlighted the partnership between Wathnan Racing, trainer Ralph Beckett and jockey James Doyle, adding another promising young winner to the operation’s British racing team.
