Mdmar – Ascot
Attention turns to Britain’s Ascot Racecourse, which will host Qatar Racing-sponsored British Champions Day next Saturday, featuring an elite field of some of the world’s leading horses. Eight runners ranked among the world’s top 20 in the Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings are set to compete in what promises to be a highly anticipated finale to the flat racing season.
The Qatar Champion Stakes, officially rated joint-best race in the world last year, could see a renewed clash between Calandagan, Ombudsman and Almaqam. Staying stars Scandinavia and Caballo de Mar are also set for another contest, while the leading contenders include Al Mairaq, Europe’s top-rated sprinter, and Kalpana, winner of the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

The eagerly anticipated meeting is part of Ascot’s long-standing traditions, bringing together horse racing, fashion, culture and the social life surrounding the sport. Ascot is also looking back to the 1960s, a decade marked by changing social attitudes and bolder fashion trends that influenced culture and racecourse life, including at Ascot, one of the sport’s most iconic traditional venues.

Preparing for a New Jump Racing Season
As the flat racing season approaches its conclusion, Ascot is preparing to launch the 2026–2027 jump racing season, revisiting some of the standout horses from the 2025–2026 campaign through showcases featuring stars who made impressive debuts and secured notable victories at the course.

Jump racing differs from flat racing in that horses must clear obstacles, while flat racing tests speed over a course without hurdles or fences. Both disciplines represent major forms of competition in horse racing, each demanding different skills from horses and jockeys.
Season Ticket for the Full Jump Racing Season
Ahead of the new season, Ascot is offering a season ticket covering all eight jump racing fixtures scheduled for 2026–2027, with access to the Queen Anne Enclosure for £89. The ticket offers savings of up to £79 compared with purchasing individual tickets.
The pass gives spectators the opportunity to follow the season from its opening fixtures, featuring promising horses making their first appearances and contests involving leading competitors, through to its major highlights and results.

With world-class competition at British Champions Day and preparations underway for a new jump racing season, Ascot continues to combine its historic heritage with a diverse racing calendar, marking the close of the flat season and the beginning of a new chapter in the sport.
