Altostratus Makes a Winning Debut for Wathnan Racing in Marseille
Mdmar – France
Wathnan Racing’s Altostratus made a successful racecourse debut today, winning the Prix d’Orange at Marseille-Borély for trainer Jérôme Reynier and jockey Antonio Orani. The contest attracted nine three-year-olds over 1,700 metres on turf.

Altostratus finished two lengths clear of Kanewko, ridden by Stéphane Pasquier. Otonia, partnered by Bryan Labate, took third, another two lengths behind the runner-up. The winner completed the race in 1 minute 43.34 seconds on soft ground and earned €7,800.

The Prix d’Orange was a maiden contest restricted to three-year-olds that had never won, with total prize money of €15,600. Altostratus was the only newcomer in the field, making his victory over previously raced opponents a particularly encouraging start to his career.

A British-bred three-year-old gelding by Kingman out of Above The Storm, Altostratus carried 56 kilograms and started from stall one. His debut success immediately gives him a winning record in Wathnan Racing’s colours.

From an analytical perspective, this was a promising first step: he overcame his lack of racecourse experience to win against more experienced rivals. His subsequent outings will provide a clearer measure of his ability and potential to progress.
