Wathnan Racing’s Aesterius as good as ever in Gr3 Prix D’arenberg

Runner-up of the Gr.3 Jaeger-Lecoultre Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood on last outing, the two-year-old Aesterius (Mehmas) confirmed previous good runs by landing the Gr.3 Prix d’Arenberg at Parislongchamp.

Owned by Wathnan Racing and trained by Archie Watson, Aesterius is now a Gr.3 winner.

Ridden by James Doyle, the British-trained colt was fast away from the stalls and made all. With Treasure Isle (No Nay Never) on the girth of the leader, the son of Mehmas was quickly on top of his rivals. Kaadi (Soldier’s Call) was a good second while Treasure Isle went third.

“The ground was not too bad, it was nice”, said the winning jockey after the race, “This horse would not like it too soft, it was beautiful ground. When I rode him at Goodwood, I rode him too quietly so today I decided to let him go and he was very responsible in front, so it was good.”

Bred by Sean Maguire, he is out of Jane Doe (Hallowed Crown), who is a half-sister to Gr.3 winner Tawhid (Invincible Spirit).
