THE JUMPING INTERNATIONAL DE MÂCON CHAINTRÉ IS CELEBRATING ITS 15TH ANNIVERSARY

Mâcon equestrian centre will play host to 186 of the world’s best riders from 14 to 18 May, in the fabulous setting at the foot of the Château de Chaintré, to celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of the Jumping International de Mâcon Chaintré, created in 2010 by the Mâcon Chaintré Événements association. Let’s take a closer look at the competitors, a few hours before the first horses arrive on site.

French course designer Cédric Longis will be creating the courses for the 70 riders in the CSI

4*, competing from Thursday in the 1.40m and 1.50m classes to qualify for Sunday’s Grand Prix of the Town of Mâcon, for the weekend’s 50 best riders. Fourteen nations will be represented in the competition this week. Among them, Belgium will be able to count on Rick Hemeryck, recent winner of a 1.50m class at Le Printemps des Sports Équestres, Wilm Vermeir, who has returned after he participated in the CSI 5* in Shanghai, Céline Schoonbroodt de Azevedo and the young Bart Jay Junior Vandecasteele. Swiss riders will include the

experienced Pius Schwizer, World No. 51, Bryan Balsiger and Elian Baumann, European team gold medallists in 2021, Edouard Schmitz, who made his Olympic debut last summer in Versailles at just 25 years old, and Alexandra Amar, winner of the 3* Grand Prix in Mâcon in 2015. Mark McAuley, the Irish rider who has adopted France as his home country, will also be present. At the same time, Brazil will be represented by two other riders who love France, Pedro Veniss and Pedro Junqueira Muylaert. Morocco will have three representatives,

including Abdelkebir Ouaddar, the first winner of the CSI3* in Mâcon Chaintré in 2014 with

37 of France’s best riders will also be taking part including: the Olympic champion from Rio, Roger-Yves Bost, Charlotte Léoni, recently sixth in the French Pro Elite Championship and a member of the team which came third in the FEI Nations Cup in Mannheim, Nicolas Sers, French Pro Elite silver medallist, Baptiste Eichner, third in the French Young Riders Championship, Alexandre Fontanelle, the 2024 French Pro 1 champion and seventh this year, and Cédric Hurel, the 2024 French Pro Elite champion and winner of several impressive

victories in CSI 4* and 5* shows in recent months. Arthur Le Vot, winner of the 2* Grand Prix in Canteleu last March, has also confirmed his presence, as have Ilona Mezzadri, European Junior Team silver medallist, and Lalie and Lolita Saclier, riders from Mâcon who are now

based in Ain.

Mégane Moissonnier from Ain, who won the 4* Grand Prix in Bourg-en-Bresse on Sunday, and the rider who came second, Burgundy’s Benoît Cernin, will also be competing and looking to win.

At the same time as the CSI 4*, there will be CSI YH1* classes for seven—and eight-year-old horses and a CSI 1*, allowing professional and amateur riders to take part in the friendly and festive competition organised by the Mâcon Chaintré Événements association. From Thursday to Sunday, the ring in Mâcon will evolve in sync with the classes, where thrilling sporting performances will be to the fore! After Julien Épaillard’s impressive victory in 2024, who will be the next rider to add their name to the list of winners of the Grand Prix of the Town of Mâcon? All will be revealed on Sunday, 18 May, from 3 pm.
