Sheikh Joaan attends Qatar Goodwood Festival and Watan wins
His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of Qatar Olympic Committee, was present during the first day of the Qatar Goodwood Festival on Tuesday, 31 July 2018, at Goodwood Racecourse, UK. The five-day Festival will see a wide range of races with the world’s top Arabian and Thoroughbred horses. It was a fantastic start of the Festival when Al Shaqab Racing recorded the first victory for Qatar in this year’s edition of the Festival, while His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani was present, when Watan won the fifth race in the card impressively. The chestnut colt schooled by Richard Hannon was steered by Ryan Moore to win the six-furlong race reserved for two-year-old maidens.
The trophy presentation ceremony was held after the race. Khalifa bin Mohammed Al Attiyah, Executive Director of Al Shaqab, received the first place trophy. Trainer Richard Hannon and the famed jockey Ryan Moore received their trophies as well.
Also present during the first day of the Festival, were the Duke of Richmond, owner of Goodwood Racecourse, Hamad bin Abdulrahman Al Attiyah, President of Qatar Equestrian Federation, Nasser bin Sherida Al Kaabi, General Manager of Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC), Abdulla Rashid Al Kubaisi, QREC Racing Manager, and numerous horse owners and trainers from around the world.
The races of the Qatar Goodwood Festival will continue tomorrow on the second day of the Festival with seven races and the most important of which will be the Qatar International Stakes (Gr 1/PA).
