The Qatar Racing Limited-owned Roaring Lion made it a third consecutive win in a Gr1 when winning the QIPCO Irish Champion Stakes (Gr1) at Leopardstown, Ireland, on Saturday, 15 September. Cantering on the outside at the back of the field, he accelerated at the start of the home straight. After a long acceleration, the John Gosden-trained colt managed to take the advantage over Saxon Warrior and get the better of him for again after the Eclipse, at the very end after a final turn of foot. The latter finishes second, a neck from Roaring Lion. Aidan O’Brien places second, third and fourth in this Gr1. Indeed, Deauville came third more than two lengths behind and Athena was fourth.
“It was the best thing I’ve seen at a racecourse,” said David Redvers, Qatar Racing Limited racing manager, “It was an unbelievable ride and a fantastic performance and it is just an absolute honour to be involved with such a horse. I’m so thrilled for Sheikh Fahad and all the team. It means a lot. We thrive to find a horse that can do this. It has taken us years to find Sheikh Fahad one. We have had some great successes, but not one like this.”
