JOUD AL CHAM (Azadi), who ran just once as a 3-year-old at Toulouse for a win in heavy ground, made a strong impression for his first start as a 4-year-old in the Prix Aicha – Wathba Stallions Cup, a conditions race for 4-year-old and older Purebred Arabians, at La Teste-de-Buch, France, on Wednesday, 20 May 2020.
In the colours of Al Shaqab Racing, who own him in partnership with his breeder, Nada Mousalli, JOUD AL CHAM (Azadi), stayed unbeaten and won the Prix Aicha by a comfortable 3 lengths in front of the D. Watrigant-trained and Anthony Crastus-ridden NO AND NO AL MAURY (Nizam). The Khalifa Bin Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Attiyah-owned and Mrs J.F Bernard-trained MIDRASS was further three and a half lenghts behind in third under Antoine Werle
Trained by Thomas Fourcy, JOUD AL CHAM has now scored two wins from two runs. Julien Augé was on board, having accompanied him to his first win as well, and kept him quietly in mid-division. Once in the straight, however, he pulled the four-year-old chestnut colt into the middle of the track and he flew past his rivals in a show of dominance. JOUD AL CHAM left a very strong impression, coming past his rivals under a hands-and-heels ride from Augé. Only one light touch with the whip once in the lead was enough for him to cruise to the finish line with ease.
JOUD AL CHAM was bred by Hassan Moussli and Nada Mousalli. He is out of Taj Al Chame (Tidjani), dam of Al Saklawiya (Al Sakbe), second in the Qatar Total Arabian Trophy Juments (Gr1 PA) and Jelkahn (Tornado de Syrah), third in the Prix Dragon (Gr2 PA).
