Hamad bin Abdulrahman Al-Attiyah, Chairman of Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC), crowned the winners of the QREC-sponsored Qatar Prix du Jockey Club. The 2,100m Gr1 contest, featuring 18 of the best three-year-old colts, took place at Chantilly, France, on Sunday, 1st June 2025. Camille Pissarro (Wootton Bassett) added a second Group 1 victory to his record with a powerful and well-judged performance in the prestigious French Classic, known also as the French Derby.

The three-year-old colt is trained by Aidan O’Brien and races in the colours of M. Tabor, D. Smith, Mrs J. Magnier, and P. M. Brant.

Run over 2100 metres, the race brought together a full field of 18 runners. Camille Pissarro came into the contest with strong credentials, having won the Gr.1 Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère last year at two, and finishing third in the Gr.1 Emirates Poule d’Essai des Poulains when last seen.

After firing slightly left from the stalls and bumping his stablemate Trinity College (Dubawi), Camille Pissarro soon settled into fifth position behind a solid pace. Bowmark (Kingman) set the tempo up front, with Trinity College close on his girth.

Travelling comfortably through the early stages, Camille Pissarro was niggled along as the field entered the home straight. He began closing steadily on the leaders but had to wait for a gap to appear. Inside the final 300 metres, space opened just inside his stablemate, and once through, he quickened impressively and ran on strongly to hit the front.

He crossed the line with half a length in hand, showing class and determination to secure his second Group 1. Cualificar (Lope De Vega) stayed on for second, while Detain (Wootton Bassett) took third.

Bred by CN Farm Ltd, Camille Pissarro is out of Entreat (Pivotal), a winner over 1900 metres at three. He is a half-brother to Golden Horde (Lethal Force), winner of the Gr.1 Commonwealth Cup over 1200 metres at three. He is also a half-brother to Line Of Departure (Mehmas), a Listed winner over 1200 metres, and Exhort (Dutch Art), a Listed winner over 1600 metres at four.
