The Al Shaqab Racing owned four-year-old TORO STRIKE (Toronado x Scarlet Strike) stayed on strongly to land the Weatherbys Hamilton Supreme Stakes (Group 3), a seven-furlong contest for three-year-olds and older,at Goodwood on Sunday, August 29th.
Appreciating the return to good ground, the Richard Fahey-trained colt landed a fourthcareer success and was ridden by jockey Ryan Moore.
MEHMENTO (Mehmas) took the field along at a brisk gallop through the first half of the race while TORO STRIKE was settledtowards the rear of the six runners by Moore. TORO STRIKE was niggled along after 600m and was briefly outpaced as the field descended the hill and entered the home straight. The pacemakers began to crack 500m out and DOUBLE OR BUBBLE (Exceed And Excel) took the lead inside the final 400m while TORO STRIKE began to move closer.Once switched to the outside, TORO STRIKE made strong headway and headed DOUBLE OR BUBBLE 200m out. The colt stayed on powerfully and went on to score by two lengths at the line. DOUBLE OR BUBBLE held on for second from RHOSCOLYN (Territories) who stayed on well for third.
Bred by Al Shaqab Racing, TORO STRIKE is by dual Group One winner TORONADO (High Chaparral), who stands at Haras De Bouquetot. His dam, SCARLET STRIKE (Smart Strike) won the Providencia Stakes (Group 3) at Santa Anita and was placed twice at Group 1 level.
TORO STRIKE holds an entry in the Cazoo Park Stakes (Group 2) at Doncaster on September 11th. * “mdmar‘s” news site for horse racing and equestrian
