The red carpet has been rolled out for the seventh stop on the 2019 Longines Global Champions Tour circuit, in the glittering destination of Cannes, France.

With seven of the top ten in the Longines Global Champions Tour 2019 ranking in action for the first French stop of the circuit, it’s set to be a dynamic week of top sport and entertainment. Currently at the top of the LGCT Rankings Daniel Deusser (GER) heads to Cannes fresh from his win on home turf in Hamburg just days ago. Deusser sits exactly 10 points ahead of long-time leader Pieter Devos (BEL) who has a tally of 145 and a real hunger to regain the Championship lead. On 106 points is Ben Maher (GBR), the reigning 2018 LGCT Champion of Champions is keen to continue his rise up the leaderboard and keep the dream of a second title alive.

Hot on his heels however is the formidable Peder Fredricson (SWE) who won last year’s LGCT Grand Prix of Cannes in sensational style. A further two points from Fredricson is Maikel van der Vleuten (NED), with a current tally of 98 points and a real chance to jump up the leaderboard with a strong result in the seventh leg of the Championship fight. Niels Bruynseels (BEL) is a further four points away, and U25 talent Evelina Tovek (SWE) will be the final top ten rider heading to Cannes, hoping to shake up the standings.

‘The City of Stars’ is just a stone’s throw from the world famous La Croisette, and the Longines Global Champions Tour of Cannes event is a remarkable combination of glamour and top-class sport. Moments from the Mediterranean, the competitions featuring the world’s leading riders and horses take place in the evening when the arena is illuminated by multi-coloured lights adding to the glamour of the occasion.

The first of four French events of the Tour is a very special horse show in the heart of the French Riviera. The original ‘International Show Jumping of Cannes’ has been on the circuit since it was launched and is one of the most historic events. Now a regular fixture on the LGCT calendar, the show has grown every year and welcomes thousands of visitors though its gates each summer.

There will be a whole host of big names in action this week, including the likes of Simon Delestre (FRA), Scott Brash (GBR), Edwina Tops-Alexander (AUS), Marcus Ehning (GER), Bertram Allen (IRL), Jessica Springsteen (USA), Margie Goldstein-Engle (USA), Gregory Wathelet (BEL), Julien Epaillard (FRA), Eric van der Vleuten (NED), Olivier Philippaerts (BEL), Marlon Zanotelli (BRA) and Shane Breen (IRL).

Drawn by the incredible level of sport on offer and the collection of international show jumping stars in attendance, visitors enjoy the ambience, glamour and nightlife of this famous city, home of course to the dazzling Cannes Film Festival. Last year the spotlight shone on Fredricson but which names will be added to the A-list line up of previous winners here?
