As preparations are underway at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) for the start of the new local racing season at Al Rayyan and Al Uqdah racecourses and the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe weekend, which will take place in a few weeks in Paris, under Qatari sponsorship which has been ongoing for years, the QREC management, led by HE Issa bin Mohammed Al Mohannadi, has completed the local Arabian horse show season programme. These shows are of great interest to QREC, given Qatar’s leadership in this discipline worldwide.

According to the programme announced by the QREC management, the new horse show season includes 12 national or international shows, which will see participations from major studs and farms from Qatar and overseas.

Al-Kaabi: Various categories

Majid Al-Kaabi, QREC Director of Arabian Horse Shows, shed light on the new season’s programme. “Since the end of the last season”, he said, “preparations have been underway for the new season by developing the calendar in full to ensure the goals of holding these shows will be fulfilled and provide greater opportunities for participation for Qatari owners, whether individuals or studs and farms. The programme takes into account the diversity of shows and the participation of various categories.”

Qatar Arabian Horse Breeders Cup

“The new season will start with the 4th Qatar Arabian Horse Breeders Cup”, added Al-Kaabi, “It is scheduled to be held from 24th to 26th October. On 10th October, the Start of Season Auction will be held. Entries for the 4th Qatar Arabian Horse Breeders Cup have been open since 5th September and will continue for 10 days. October will also see the staging of the 4th Qatar Arabian Horse Show for Local Bred, which will be held on 27th, 28th and 29th of the same month. In the following month, November, there will be two shows and the first of these will be the Al Shaqab International Arabian Horse Show from 17th to 17 November and the second will be the 27th Qatar National Arabian Horse Show from 27th to 30th November. A few days later, the 1st Al Rayyan National Arabian Peninsula Horse Show will be held on 2nd, 3rd and 4th December.”

International shows during the Season

Regarding the international shows, Al-Kaabi said: “In January 2025, the first three international shows of the season will be held. The first is the 4th Doha International Arabian Horse Show, which will be held from 3rd to 6th January. The second will be the 6th Souq Waqif International Arabian Horse Show, which will be held on 14th, 15th and 16th January. During the same month, and specifically on 18th, 19th and 20th, the 14th Souq Waqif Arabian Peninsula Horse Show will be held. It will be followed by the third international show, the Katara International Arabian Peninsula Horse Show, which will be held from 29th January to 1st February 2025. The Global Champions Arabians Tour will be held from 5th to 8th February.

Seasons concludes with two national shows

“No shows will be held in March because it will coincide with Ramadan. The last two shows of the season will take place in April. These are the 13th Qatar National Arabian Horse Show, which will be held from 9th to 12th April, and the 10th Qatar National Arabian Peninsula Horse Show on 13th and 14th April. As the season will start with a horse auction, it will conclude with another one, which will be End of Season Auction to be held on 17th April and will mark the end of the horse show season at QREC. We hope that the benefit will be great and that we will continue to excel and lead in this discipline, especially since Qatar is a pioneer in organising these shows in the Arab region in general. In addition, Qatari major studs and farms have a long rich history in Arabian horse shows worldwide”, concluded Majid Al Kaabi.
